In our current unit, a?a?How We Organize Ourselvesa, PYP 2 students inquiry centered around the idea that many products go through a variety of processes before they reach consumers. We focused on the three lines of inquiry:

  • AAAAAAAAOrigins of products
  • AAAAAAAAProduction processes
  • AAAAAAAAHow people select the products they use

To support their inquiry and provide the students with engaging learning activities PYP 2 went on two fun and interesting outings.

Our first visit was to a Hydroponic Plantation where students could see and experience food production starting from planting and the process of cultivating raw materials, through to Apackaging and distribution. The students experienced producing healthy kale juice from hydroponic plants combined with fruits to be distributed to supermarkets.

The second outing was to Gading Murni. Students explored further the relationship between consumers, consumption, and money. This was a transdisciplinary learning engagement involving Maths, as they are learning about money, and Art including product design and its impact on value. The students had the opportunity to complete an unfinished product using a range of both imported and exported materials.
