On the 5th of August 2018, the island of Lombok experienced an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.0. This unexpected natural disaster caused causalities across Lombok. Until the latest earthquake on the 9th of August 2018, there has been a rise in the death toll (259). Currently, it has been reported that there are at least 98 deaths, more than 100 people injured and many buildings are torn apart.

A group of 47 Grade 12 students are willing to lend a helping hand to those who had been victims to the earthquake. Through this CAS experience, along with my team, we would like to prove that we understand this global issue, make responsible decisions and take appropriate action in response to that issue.

Miss Corry will be working with the STUCO team to organise a drive for donations. STUCO members will visit classrooms each morning until 20th August to collect any cash donations or parents may give their donations in at the admin office.

We have identified some essential things which are needed by victims at the moment are:

1. Clothes, including underwear, shoes/sandals, blankets

2. Foods – non-perishable. e.g, instant noodles, rice, biscuit, crackers, nuts etc.; powdered coffee, milk, and tea bags.

3. Medicines

4. Toiletries and personal hygiene products

5. Stationary (incl. story books, school bags)

6. Products specifically for babies and elderly

7. Money/donations (Donations will be used to buy tarpaulins and pay for delivery costs.)

Together, we would like to share this awareness to the whole school community.

We will deliver all the goods to 3 areas: Senggigi, Mataram, and Linggar through a reputable courier.

Please bring your donations to the HS Students lounge, from Monday to Friday. In PYP, there will be two boxes set up in front of the admin area where parents and students can drop off donations.

Pos Indonesia has offered free delivery until the end of August, so we will take advantage of this very generous offer. We will to do deliveries through to the end of August.
