Reading should not be presented to children as a chore or a duty. It should be offered to them as a precious gift’ ? – Children’s fiction author Kate DiCamillo.

The quote above reflects our beliefs about what reading is for the children at Sekolah Ciputra. This year we celebrated our Book Week which was entitled “Upon Up A World of Fantasy”. The week-long event is an annual celebration of books written for children, hoping to inspire a love of reading and developing our reading horizons in a wide variety of creative ways.  Numerous activities that connect readers with books and celebrate the joy of reading were hosted by the PYP teaching teams and parents such as Myths/Legends Day, SuperHeroes Day, Snuggle-Up and Read Day, Pajamas Day, Book Character Parade and a Book Fair. Each day within Book Week was filled with opportunities to provide rich experiences and hopefully build lifelong reading habits, whether this is within large or small groups, before school, during breaks, in classrooms, inquiry spaces or in warm and cosy reading places.

Once again it was a huge success and a tradition we will continue for many years to come.
