Dear Parents, Students and Staff,

On Friday we celebrated Youth Pledge Day as the final cumulation of Bulan Bahasa celebrations. Our students and staff wore batik and both the Elementary and High School held assemblies to celebrate this important day. The assemblies featured high quality speeches, essays poems drama and singing. It was a fitting way for the school to demonstrate pride in our cultural heritage. An interesting feature of the High School assembly was the participation of North Shore Christian Grammar School from Brisbane Australia. The students who study Indonesian produced a video that was played at the end of the assembly. The school will be attending some lessons here virtually in November and plan to visit in October next year. This opens the way for a promising potential international partnership in the future-watch this space!

The Kidprenuer Fair was a very special event. This year the bar was raised significantly with the inclusion of design thinking into the equation. The student’s business plans were superb and the capacity they demonstrated to speak about their development of ideas and production was exceptional.  It was wonderful to see such a wide range of products and the clear focus on solving environmental problems. The students certainly demonstrated the capacity to turn a problem into an opportunity. The strength of entrepreneurship in the school is awesome.

The Surabaya sports league continues, and it is wonderful to be able to give the students regular weekly fixtures that they can train for and develop as a team. On Friday we took the senior boys’ and girls’ team to SES with the boys winning and the girls having a loss. This week both teams play SIS. The juniors have a fixture with SES.

An important upcoming event is the Grade 10 pathways meeting to begin the option choice process for the Grade 10’s as they approach the final two years of school. This is a great opportunity to attend, ask questions and make plans. Coupled with all the university visits it provides valuable support.

Have a great week.
