Dear Parents,

Welcome back to the new school year. I hope you all enjoyed the holiday break.

Once again we have enjoyed an excellent start buoyed by a great set of academic results. We are all really proud of the cohort who gained the highest ever pass rate-94% without lowering the average score (31). I am very proud of the teachers who did such an excellent job working with the cohort.

Congratulations to those students who represented us internationally at the World Scholars Cup and the Model United Nations. There are some great articles of these events on the website and in the upcoming newsletter.

It was a privilege to welcome our new students to the Sekolah Ciputra family on Monday.I spoke with them about our vision and mission, about the opportunities available for them here as well as our proud and building academic record. I predicated all this however on the topic of the importance of being well mannered. I spoke about the fact that any education that ignores the development of sensitivity towards others and good manners is doing themselves and their students an injustice. As part of our strategic and annual plan this year, good manners will be defined and actively taught to our students as an adjunct to becoming good learners. Learning habits are referred to by the International Baccalaureate (IBO) as being important approaches to learning (AtLs). I look forward to working with staff, students and the wider community in defining, modelling, explicitly teaching and monitoring the development of good manners.

Finally, please remember that I am available to meet without an appointment every Friday morning from 7:35 – 9:00 am. You just need to come in to the main administration area and let our receptionist know you wanting to meet with me.I look forward to meeting with and working with you in the year ahead.

Have a great week!

Martin Blackburn
