Hello, my name is Shannon Melody from MYP 9C. Last April, I participated in a piano contest held by Indonesia International Youth Music Olympics (IIYMO). This competition was attended by a total of more than 700 participants from around the world (Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan, Australia, and the USA) for all categories. Thankfully, when the results came out earlier this month, I was pleased to find out that I received 1st place and a top performer award (highest score out of the participants in my category).

I joined this competition as a milestone to prepare for my last piano exam before getting my diploma. The song that I chose is a 7-minute long song from the “romantic period” of music. As soon as I heard this song, I fell in love with its diversity of character and its magnificent climaxes. I think that because I truly enjoy this song, that was why I was able to be immersed while playing it and express my emotions well.

Hi, I’m Audrey Felysse Abetnego from PYP 4. I’m grateful to hear that I received 1st prize in the Piano Performance category for Grades 3-4 held by the Indonesia International Youth Music Olympics (IIYMO).

The competition was held online in April, and the winners were announced in May. There were so many participants from all over the world. I performed a song called “Innocence”, which I enjoyed playing and it expressed my emotions well, and it won the hearts of the judges. This is not the first time I have participated in an international piano competition, so I don’t feel nervous anymore. I continue to practice playing the piano regularly because I love it.

I am very happy because of my hard work and consistency has paid off.

Audrey Felysse Abetnego, PYP 4
