Stacy Barin
Graduation Year : 2010
Where did you go to university? What did you study?
I commenced my tertiary education at Hogeschool van Amsterdam in The Netherlands, where I studied International Financial Management for two years. Following this I attended Curtin University in Singapore where I graduated with a double major in Marketing & Management, and subsequently a master’s degree in International Business.
During my time in Singapore, I also attained a Professional Certificate in Florist Development and American Design.
What was the inspiration behind your business?
I’ve always loved flowers and gift giving; I love seeing the reactions people have when they receive them.
I was also inspired by renowned international floral designers like Jeff Leatham and Daniel Ost, as well as the American and Japanese (known as Ikebana) styles of floral arrangement. This led to my goal of bringing a new standard of floral design to Indonesia, whilst introducing a more immersive and engaging floral experience to my clients.
What product/ service do you provide?
We mostly provide bespoke arrangements for birthdays, anniversaries, store openings and condolences. We also offer a curated range of lifestyle products including fragrances, artisanal soap and decorative household items.
What is a typical day like for you?
I usually wake up at 6am to oversee morning deliveries and reply to enquiries from the previous evening.
I then begin communicating with my suppliers to order flowers and other raw materials needed for upcoming orders. This is important for quality control as I need to ensure that I use only the freshest and most beautiful flowers available.
The rest of my day is usually spent at the workshop, working with my team, arranging flowers for clients, and completing business-related tasks such as marketing campaigns, event planning and collaborations.
Do you use social media to promote your company/business?

Tell us something memorable from your time at Sekolah Ciputra?
There are so many memories since I joined SC in Grade 1. Visiting factories, camping, decorating class; but most of all, the amazing relationships and everlasting support from friends, teachers and staff which have endured well beyond my time at SC. This network has proven to be invaluable to me in both my social and professional life.
What advice would you give to a graduating student that was interested in creating their own business?
If you are considering starting a new business, you should think about what needs or problems the business will solve, rather than starting with something you simply hope will sell well. It’s much easier to gain a solid customer base when your business fills a clear hole in the market. That is, know what problems your target clients face, and develop a product or service that solves those problems.
