Sekolah Ciputra follows our policy 2.1-Academic Integrity and integrates the IB ideals regarding Academic Integrity: “Academic integrity goes beyond a definition and a well-structured school policy; it should also be part of an ‘ethical culture’ of any educational institution, be that a primary school or a university. It is an obligation which must be embraced and fostered by the entire school community, so students continue their future life, whether in higher education or in the workplace, in strict adherence to this principle.” (IB: Academic Integrity, P3)
As an IB Continuum School, Sekolah Ciputra promotes the attributes of the learner profile and ethical behaviour for all community members. Being a trustworthy and responsible learner is fundamental to who we are and what we aspire to be.
The Sekolah Ciputra motto is: Non scholae sed vitae discimus. We learn, not for school, but for life. Our aim is to help our students become principled, lifelong learners who possess the skills, integrity, and resilience to participate in a changing global society. Academic integrity is fundamental to this.
The Early Years, Elementary and High School play an important role in the teaching of academic integrity by:
- Modelling best practice research and referencing skills in all teaching, learning and assessment items
- Acting in an ethically sound and principled manner at all times
- Explicitly teaching good research skills and practices
- Implementing the Learner Profile Principled whereby students “act with honesty and integrity, with a strong sense of fairness, justice and respect for the dignity of the individual, groups and communities” (IBO 2017)
The latest challenge in Academic Integrity is the use of AI in creating student assessments. It is strictly forbidden for students to use AI to write the answers to their assessments and submit those answers as their own work. Students must follow the standard rules regarding citations and the acknowledgement of any contributions from other people or AI. All information gained from AI must be verified, students must understand the content through further research and any AI assistance, including generating a structure or suggesting improvements to grammar and sentence structure, must be referenced.
