Dear Parents, Teachers and Staff,

All the best of luck to our Grade 12 SBDP students who have their final school examinations this week. Also to our Grade 10 students who are out on work experience. We hope that the experiences you have help you to make decisions about what you want to do, and also maybe what you don’t want to do, in the next steps of your learning journey!

Additionally this week, students will be participating in a global event known as Myfreedomday. They will be looking at the issue of modern day slavery and will be given the opportunity to reflect upon what makes them feel free.  Please support this initiative by discussing the issues with your child.

The 2018/2019 Parent Survey will be sent out this afternoon. Please take the opportunity of giving us feedback. Last year we used the survey results to make significant changes to the annual and strategic plans. Your feedback makes a real difference. You can access and complete the survey here Please click here

Finally, we were reflecting upon one of the approaches to learning (ATLs) that the students are encouraged to adopt.  This is the capacity to pick yourself up after a mistake and learn from it. This is an object lesson for all of us. Mistakes will always be made throughout our lives, we can learn from them and modify our actions and turn them into valuable life lessons. We all have responsibility to help our students negotiate the many snares in our world. As a school we also warn students about the dangers of peer pressure. We remind them that good reputations are difficult to build and very easy to destroy. Supervision of young people and encouraging them to be responsible is a job for us all.

Have a great week!

Martin Blackburn
