Dear Parents, Teachers and Staff,
Firstly, I would like to thank everyone for their well wishes to the staff for Indonesian Teachers’ day on the 25th November and especially to Ms. Pinky Kalim and Ms. Stefani Angelia Tjiptanto for their very kind contribution of hot chocolate and savoury bread for the staff. Your thoughtfulness is most appreciated.
As you all know a great deal of time and effort has been put into increasing the standard of mathematics and science within the school. What we are seeing is increasing levels of confidence and achievement in this area. This has been so marked that we have been able to push the expected levels of numeracy up by one whole year in the upper elementary as well as introducing advanced mathematics into the middle years. This matches the achievement of a few years ago in English language where we changed the entry requirement for Grade 7 to the previous standard for entering Grade 10. A good way of triangulating our performance is through standardised testing like MAP (which has been uniformly above level) and also in the performance of our students in local and international competitions. We were delighted with our JISMO results this year. They demonstrate this ongoing improvement. This year we gained:
- 1 student at Diamond level, the top 1% of the cohort
- 4 students at Ruby level, the top 10% of the cohort
- 5 students at Emerald level, the next 10% of the cohort
- 6 students at Sapphire level, the next 10% of the cohort
- 3 students at Good Effort level, the next 15% of the cohort
Our results are improving dramatically with more and more students participating. I believe our best is still to come.
The PYP are now gathering data regarding the vaccination of 5-11 year olds. This is an exciting opportunity in the journey towards a full re-opening of the school. Please work with the PYP by completing all the relevant required forms and hopefully this programme will get underway soon.
Finally, enjoy the excitement of Book Week and remember that reading with your child is great both educationally as well as social emotionally.
Have a great week.
