News from the Executive Principal’s Desk

Dear parents, students, teachers and alumni of Sekolah Ciputra,

I hope you have had a nice weekend and are ready for week 3. Thank you to everyone for joining us in the many parent meetings we had last week.  I had a number of parents speak with me throughout the week on a wide range of topics.  Sometimes it is academic related. Other times it is a social-emotional issue. No matter what the subject is, it always comes back to the most precious thing in their lives…their child(ren).  

Something I encourage all staff to reflect on is that it is important to take the time to listen, process what is being said, ask clarifying questions if needed, and do what we can to try to help if we can.  Hopefully the responses we receive will be similar to the last one I heard as I was walking out to the parking lot with one mom and she told me “thank you, I feel much better now.”  It is equally important for parents to understand that we are all on the same team, working together to help support their children.  

We have several big events happening this week, so please keep them on your radar:

  1. Monday our Senior Boys’ Basketball Team will play our first game of the DBL tournament against SMAN 17 Surabaya at 15:30.  Good luck to the team and cheerleaders!
  2. PYP will have Independence Day celebrations Friday morning and High School will have their Independence Day House activities on Friday afternoon.
  3. Finally, we will host our first ever TEDx event in Ciputra Hall this Saturday.  Good luck to everyone speaking and working to help make it a successful event.
  4. Don’t forget that next Monday, August 17th, is Independence Day.  All students from grades 6-12 must come to school, in correct school uniform, for a flag ceremony from 7:15 – 8:00.

My article for this week is on “De-implementing,” which is something we all need to learn more about and try to do a better job of. As we begin preparing for our school’s next 3-year Strategic Plan, this is definitely something I would like us to spend some time reflecting on. Let me know what you think of the podcast and/or article.
