Dear Parents, Teachers and Staff,

The Upacara Bendera held on Saturday morning to celebrate Indonesian Independence Day was a wonderful occasion and an opportunity for our whole community to demonstrate pride in our national identity. It was fabulous to have our school gathered together in remembrance and to have the opportunity to reflect upon the sacrifices made by those in the past and how they have paved the way for the present that we enjoy. Any moment of reflection is precious and we would like to thank all those who made this possible. This includes the High School team who organised the ceremony, the students and staff who made it such a special occasion and all the staff, parents and students who participated. The Elementary school also celebrated with a ceremony on Friday followed by traditional games.  Once again, thanks to the team for organizing a well-orchestrated event.

While we were celebrating our national day here, a group of our students from across the continuum were demonstrating their commitment to internationalism by attending the World Scholar’s Cup (WSC) in Sydney, Australia.  They are back later in the week so we look forward to sharing their experience with you. Meanwhile, Jeremy James is representing the school at a humanities competition in Serbia. This balance is what helps make our school so unique. We blend academic excellence with a commitment to our vision to build our students into true international citizens, comfortable within themselves and their culture yet have a willingness and ability to embrace the wider world.

Thanks to the students for their commitment as well as to the teachers, parents and staff members who have supported them.

Have a great week.

Martin Blackburn
